After doing many of the course readings I have come to realize that our society looks at women as a secondary figure to men. From some of our readings we saw how the press and media portrayed women to the public for their athletic endeavors by their race, social class and gender. Throughout history we have never really seen women in sport get the equal or same respect as men. I came to realize this even more as I was reading my SLAM magazine, a monthly I saw that the magazine had come up with some projections for the upcoming NCAA men's and women's division one basketball. The men's portion of the article included the projected top 20 mens teams over two pages with a little blurb about each team, while the women were only given one page and had only 10 projected team rankings. By seeing this distribution of space in a magazine is a reflection of how women are seen in our society today.
